I love the decentralized web, I left the others and came to the new sites… We know that there will only be a matter of time before there is the next ‘we’ve had enough’ moment, so what are the things that we can do to help build the technologies to be ready for it?
I think it’s important that there be a rich culture that is approachable, but that doesn’t mimic what the other platforms do. Lemmy won’t have the numbers that the other site has. But surely we have more to offer that isn’t memes of cans of beans.
Then post content. I have been here 5 months (about 200+ days). I have submitted 900+ posts and more than 240 comments. That’s an average of just more than 4 submissions per day. Some days I am busy, but others (like today), I post more. Sometimes I get called a boomer (I’m not) because of my taste. I still try to make Lemmy an interesting place.
It’s easy to complain about problems. Step up and be a part of the change. You don’t have to try and do X number of submissions per day, but being active, whether you post, comment, report spammers, etc. work toward a better Lemmy.
First, wow.
Absolutely, I’m working on it… already getting close to my 7 years one reddit in less than one on lemmy. Naturally, I’m more of an introvert. Trying to be part of the solution was the reason that I started this community. So that there would be a reason to contribute and communicate more.
One other thing I would add, even introverts can upvote quality posts and comments. You can also downvote spam. Encourage others to engage with the community.
