In the distant past, I used to be able to sit down at a bar where people would smoke, and not mind at all. Then came the smoking ban, which made me find it unpleasant, but not a big deal. Then came the lockdowns, and I got used to breathing super fresh air all the time. Now I start coughing if someone outdoors smokes 5m away from me and the wind blows it in my direction. Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me?
Fair enough. I guess it was so common when I was growing up that I never realised it.
I don’t know how old you are, but I grew up before the smoking ban. It was pretty common, and I had several relatives who smoked, but neither of my parents did. Smells bad and makes it hard to breathe, so I’ve always hated it.
Banning smoking in restaurant is one of the best change o have witnessed while growing up. Truly marvelous.
For real, it made me incredibly happy.
Ah, maybe the difference is that my parents smoked when I was very small. Eventually they both quit and now they both hate the smell. But yes, I also grew up before the smoking ban.
I was born in 85, my parents were smokers. Smoked in the house, smoked in the car, we sat in the smoking section in restaurants, it was awful and I hated it. My husband smoked for a long time, started when hr was like 16,17 and quit during the pandemic because we were planning on getting pregnant. It’s been great. No more annoying smoke breaks and best of all no more wretched cigarette smells
My husband was also a smoker (who also started in high school) when we started dating. I was very vocal about my dislike of it, and he quit tobacco about a year in, and now he vapes. Still vaping 6+ years later, lol, but he’s been cutting back and plans to quit eventually. When we do plan to have kids, he’ll be stopping for sure.
