Three Palestinian college students were shot in Burlington, Vermont, on Saturday evening, prompting calls from civil rights organizations and the victims’ families for authorities to look into possible bias by the attacker.

The 20-year-old men are all receiving medical care, according to a Sunday news release from the Burlington Police Department. “Two are stable, while one has sustained much more serious injuries.”

The students were walking on Prospect Street while visiting a relative in Burlington for the Thanksgiving holiday when “they were confronted by a white man with a handgun,” says the release.

“Without speaking, he discharged at least four rounds from the pistol and is believed to have fled on foot,” police said.

Police said that two of the victims are US citizens and one is a legal resident.

Unless the attacker knew them, how could he have known they were Palestinian? It’s not like it was written on their forehead.

I feel bad for the victims. You can’t even be safe outside your war torn country. Not even in fucking Burlington, Vermont for crying out loud.

Edit: I’m not saying this isn’t a hate crime. Chill people.

      The article goes into it.

      Besides their clear ethnicity:

Two of the three students were wearing keffiyehs, traditional Palestinian scarves, according to the police department

You can see an example of the keffiyehs in the picture attached to this thread as well.

Someone looking to kill members of an ethnic group would recognize their ethnicity and traditional garb.

Ah that was my other guess. But I’ve seen non Palestinian people wearing them in support for Palestine.

In any case, this is a hate crime. There’s no doubt.

Kind of hard to imagine a random act of violence in this situation, with the conservative sphere screaming for genocide.
