Does the Data Privacy Act of 2012 have the same powers as the GDPR or CCPA in that it will compel companies and corporations to delete data from users in Philippine territory?
EDIT: We have the rights to, as per prescribed in the IRR of the Data Privacy Act:
PH companies can delete data from their database. The irony here is that you need to submit rigorous documents to them, and it will take them 30 days tops to delete your data.
I requested GCash to delete my former account linked to my old, forgotten mobile number last year, and yes they deleted “some of it”. I say some of it, kasi under sila sa AMLC na dapat may data retention ang mga deleted account minimum of five years, ten is max. ePhilID (or any valid ID) former mobile number, at letter need nila. I dunno kung ganito pa rin ngayon.
Tried requesting data deletion sa Shopee, but they need interview or video chat. Wtf? This was a year ago.
