Local = communities on your home instance
Group of subs on one server = Instance
Open comunication between Instances = Federation
Gathering of communities on all nodes / federated instances = Fediverse
Basically you pick your home instance, which has some communities. Think of this like a star system with planets. But your ‘star’ (instance) is linked to other stars, and you can interact with ‘planets’ (communities) around those other linked stars, as if it was just one huge collection of planets.
