My dad had to apply to get my SSN at some point when I was like 6-8 years old to continue claiming me as a dependent on his taxes. Granted, that was over 40 years ago but I don’t remember any of that happening when my 19 year old was born either (except for the birth certificate).

Are they fingerprinting babies these days?
They didn’t do that or assign SSNs when I was born.
