Sorry for the inconvenience - it’s frustrating that the app yells at users about this.
While true, I think your earlier point about the web version sufficing stands. It may just be force of habit expecting to use an app.
The mobile web version really is pretty good, which is a rare thing to say about the mobile web version of anything!
