For me, it was the first “scary” movie I saw as a child - and I spent a long time watching it repeatedly with my cousin! We would play it at school, too.
I love that it stands up so well as an adult - way more to appreciate!

I saw it as a birthday present. According to iMDB, it was released in the UK on December 7th, 1984. This makes perfect sense as my birthday is latter January, I would’ve been nine.
Of course all the adult jokes went over my head, but I loved the hardware, the car and the ghosts and I became a fan for life. I probably bought the films on VHS, which I then upgraded to US DVDs. I have the Blu-rays and, if I ever find them cheap enough, the 4K editions. (I have Ghostbusters 2016 & Afterlife in 4K).
