The people who have the budget don’t care about the end result quality or how in-line it is. Only that it makes money.

The people who have the passion to make it true to form, and entertaining to play, don’t have the budget or legal team.

And they won’t play nice with corporate suits (meaning they won’t bend over and compromise quality for profit) so the people who have the budget have no interest in the people with the talent.

The dumbest thing about the whole thing is that the guys from Stargate Network reached out to MGM many times. They wanted to get permission to continue the project, and I assume even to get support becoming an officially released product. For years the just never got a reply from MGM. Then when someone had an idea to do this Timekeepers they shut them down.

I will be forever convinced that Timekeepers is just an asset swap of what was going to be a Star Wars game. I think the developers made a couple of levels as a pitch, but then found out it was either too expensive to get the rights or they were knocked back. They then looked at how else they could use the work they’d done so far and got the Stargate IP.

The two first levels were saw looked like hoth and kashyyk, because they definitely don’t feel like what we see in the show. The battle of Antarctica was over a flat desert of ice, and any forest planet should have looked like British Columbia.

I haven’t seen anything about this game before today, and just looked up some gameplay. Looks pretty generic to me.

I personally don’t see the hoth bit, but kashyyk, or I could even see endor, spot on.

I vaguely remember the Ancients preferring a climate more like PNW, but I can’t remember if that was in one of the shows, or one of the writers/producers had that as headcanon. But British Columbia doesn’t have too many giant sequoia forests, last I checked, so those are way out of place.

Definitely feels like someone asset swapped.
