James Gunn was basically a hit piece before getting canned by one person superseding everyone else and eventually reinstated when everyone settled down.
Gina just made a target out of herself and got to keep her job because of one person vouching for her and eventually she was fired when she made it clear she wasn’t going to stop.
Truth is each instance is different and the people deciding are different each time.
James Gunn being an edgelord dipshit when he was younger was already known. He owned up to it when he was attacked and he had already previously owned up to it and put the effort in to “do better” as it were for years by that point. Gunn’s firing is basically the ultimate counter to “Do one bad thing and people will ruin your life for it”. he did a lot of bad shit but he had demonstrated he was not the same person saying that stupid shit and people defended him for it.
