I’m not super hopeful that the SCOTUS would rule against Trump in this should the case get to them, but the thing about the supreme court appointments is that once they’re in, they don’t need anyone anymore.
They don’t have to defend Trump because they’ve gotten the position they wanted. And, if they think Trump is just getting in the way of real Republican goals, they could easily push him aside.
