The California Senate has given approval to an Assembly-passed bill that would legalize marijuana cafes where marijuana and marijuana products, as well as other food and drink products, can be purchased and consumed.
The Senate voted yesterday to pass Assembly Bill 374 through its second reading, a day after the Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development voted 11 to 1
“AB 374 will allow struggling cannabis businesses to diversity away from the marijuana-only ‘dispensary’ model and bring much needed tourist dollars into empty downtowns.”
This is great, but the bolded part struck me as comical and odd. I have yet to be in a dispensary and it not be busy.
Can’t remember the source, but I read somewhere that legal cannabis operations in California are struggling to make profits due to businesses having unsustainable discounts to try and compete + illicit markets still remaining. So that could be genuine reason for struggle, if accurate.
I actually think I saw the same thing, now that you mention it. Iirc it was due to the taxes, since they are like 30% (might be exaggerating but it sure feel that way)
