You are free to express yourself here, hate is not tolerated, but there are more fun and effective ways to remove these bad actors than a simple ban; and it will be fun if they let us explore the options available to us. It would be the biggest regret post of their life.
It’s possible that the concept is just “that” broad, but I read the about and this post and I still don’t feel like I really get what kind of content this space is meant to have.
Also, maybe this is just a personal pet peeve of sorts, but I find myself wanting to know the why/origin of the “She Hacked You” name, and I think the lack of explanation or acknowledgement kind of adds to my sense of not understanding the space.
That is fair, I plan to return to streaming educational material over twitch soon and this just may be a community surrounding that.
But evolution of pokemon often involve name changes too tho
I changed my display name to avoid confusion too
Also keep in mind I’m actively building an activity pub server and associated web framework to build clients with. So this is more of a stepping stone to larger, more complex, using platforms that actually match the needs instead of just doing the first process of building a community.
The community aspect though cant be understated, its massively important, the platform is useless, the choices about names, the logos, all of it meaningless unless people come together around something. And I agree that something is debatable but we do have people forming around something; there is evidence of that, its up to us to shape that.
This would be the opposite of like a hyper-focused community and instead provide a more inclusive space that is scientific, leftist, and technologically forward thinking. There are a lot of leftist communities, a lot of scientific communities; but leftist scientific communities are actually quite rare.
Then there is the huge number of techno-savior cults among communities of scientists and especially computer scientists. My idea was like a middle ground for those concepts but without the techno-saviour cult aspect, and a more realistic view of technology both its positive and negative aspects.
Maybe consider it for now more like an old forum with a bunch of different communities tied together, instead of the micro-community model.
But again, its like a pokemon, this is an evolving thing. It only works if the community forums, so almost no point in trying to decide all the details unless there are people who are interested in forming a community.
Once we have a larger community then its easier to start deciding how decisions are made and then making those decisions; like changing names, and narrowing or at least segregating topics of interest.
It may not work, but the only way to find out is trying.
The XMPP MUC is still being used and I will continue using it regardless if this works.
I really like how you’re thinking about all of this
Its evolving, but I appreciate the feedback. If there is anything particular that you like but don’t want to say here you can XMPP me and we can talk about it.
