    What’s the word journalists and AI used before “slam” became the status quo? It’s extra strange considering how physical the word is–they don’t care about confusion though: they get more clicks if we think DeSantis slammed Trump into something, against something, took a slam and the result was Trump, etc.

      A polite version would be: talks about, blames, accuses. It’s all a bit boring compared to the more violent words.

      You also have other options for emoting physical violence, such as: tears into, takes a swing. They’re longer so less click baity.
