There is a local class / status view of the Rohingya that underpins the hatred. Fueled further by social media. If a UK or similar person landed looking for relief, there is that same “status” thing that would lead to more favorable interactions. It is awful.
The sheer stupidity of it! If it was another people they would be accepting. Hopefully they will themselves never need to run for their own lives
