I’m no expert but it’s probably the other way around. Ninja Gaiden was seen as the hardest quick twitch action game well before Dark Souls ever came out. It’s a great game if you haven’t played it though I can’t speak for the sequels
Ah makes sense, I never played the NG games, but when I would talk to my friend about the OG DMC games, he would tell me about NG, so I had assumed it was more like DMC (in the sense that getting hit twice wouldn’t kill you unless it was a boss).

Yes it is but like nioh (but not as much as nioh) , combat is a bit tactical
