Hey, you should try Liftoff (it’s an actual app) or Wefwef (a webapp that feels like a native app).

Both of those are much better than Connect.

Just tried installing Wefwef, and the first thing that hits me, is the lack of dark mode under appearance settings. Am I blind, or is that not a thing in Wefwef?

EDIT: Liftoff feels rather nice, the menus need a little getting used to (and that big obnoxious ‘+’ in the middle of everything), but overall it seems like a nice experience.

Not sure if any of these are better than Connect, but I’ll keep them all installed and keep using them in shifts, to see which one feels better.

EDIT: 2 weeks later I’ve switched full-time to Liftoff.

I think it follows your system theme, I’m running it on dark mode.

That’s unfortunate, as I like having my phone in light mode for regular daytime use, and keep my “chill apps” dark for when sitting in the evening and scrolling.

But it does make sense, thanks for the reply. :)

Thank you! I just downloaded Liftoff. It does look much cleaner than Connect, but it’s having trouble loading stuff, hopefully that gets worked out

We’ll have a ton of high quality options soon. Lots of the Reddit app devs are working on Lemmy apps. I wouldn’t be surprised if almost all the ui code can be reused

Yeah, I really wish at least one of the major third party Reddit apps was able to launch their Lemmy version today, bit of course I understand it takes time

Connect looks nice and is fast, but it’s really buggy too. But early days. In a month or two we should have a few more good options. Really looking forward to some great Reddit apps coming to Lemmy.

Connect dev here. I’m getting those bugs ironed out! I’m also a Reddit migrant and the app has only been live for about 9 days now.

Sorry, didn’t want to diss you there. This is crazy impressive for the short time frame.

All the apps are in early and rapid development and I am looking forward to what is going to happen in the months to come.

My point was only the (obviously unfair) comparison to Reddit apps that have years under their belts. But Lemmy apps will get there too.

You’re doing a great job so far, commenting from Connect right now.

Thank you for your work! Connect is the only Android app for lemmy that works on my EMUI/Nougat phone, so I’m really grateful I stumbled upon it. Thunder, liftoff and the likes can’t connect, probably because of the old WebView version I’m using - the newer ones sadly fuck with Midori Lite :(

I’ve just installed Connect earlier today and immensely enjoy it so far! I’m looking forward to maybe some additional Themes; and don’t worry 'bout the bugs too much, I’m sure you’ve got the few main ones in your sights and will figure stuff out soon enough! :) – Keep up the good deeds!

Try wefwef (the name sucks, idk why they picked it)

      https://wefwef.app/

It’s a web app that’s really clean looking and smooth. Wish they would add a top (day/week/month) sort though for postings
