    What exactly do they think humans will be hunting? The large mammals will go extinct in the process of 8+billion falling to hunter gatherer population levels if agriculture goes bye bye. Also heating the earth doesnt have the same effects as the ice age era in terms of making ag nonviable. Cold is much worse than warm.

      There definitely won’t be 8 billion people for very long if we have to resort to hunting and gathering. We already hunted and gathered everything hundreds of years ago. Wildlife populations are less than 10% of what they were just last century. But the collapse of farming is the complete collapse of society. If that happens, everything is fucked.

      I expect they mean the far future, where the ecosystem can recover. Large mammals will be gone almost immediately, but rodent-sized animals will survive, and their size can increase over relatively short (evolutionary speaking) time scale.
