Why the cowgate is open today is a mystery to me. Edinburgh council getting the message finally it seems wrt to people, not cars

Yeah, Lothian road becoming the only main route north and south not ideal imo either. But given demographics of Newington, it’s probably OK for buses only?
Long time since I was there, but does Newington still have queues of buses competing for the same routes ?
Imho, should be one tram route, with smooth change to buses towards outlying villages, from somewhere like Cameron toll.
Still queues, especially 5pm. That’s being talked about as stage 4 on the tram plan. All unfunded at this stage. Stage 3 announced this week looks set to either tear up the roseburn cycle path or across the precarious dean bridge. Neither a great idea and a new crossing needed imo
Btw, wasn’t there a convenient old tunnel from Waverley to Scotland street? Might make more sense for a N-S tram route, except would need matching tunnel at similar level on the old-town side.
I liked the system in many east-european cities: Trams for the old centre, trolleybuses to the suburbs, ‘auto’-buses to the villages. Have to change, but it flows faster.
not sure about convenient really. Very steep too - https://www.subbrit.org.uk/sites/scotland-street-tunnel/
