An intense, long-lasting atmospheric river is moving across California — bringing widespread power outages and the potential for mudslides and life-threatening flooding as it dumps heavy rain and snow. Follow our live coverage here.
At some point something like this, possibly even worse, is going to happen again. Except next time instead of ~350,000 people living in California there are going to be ~40 million and there are now all sorts of dams that will fail catastrophically, adding all of the water in their reservoirs to the flood waters in massive, destructive waves. And we are not at all prepared; it’s too big of a problem and everyone in charge just wants to ignore it and hope it doesn’t happen on their watch.

Exactly this, and it’s a hell of a thing to gamble on too, because the longer it takes to fix the problem, the worse the mess will be when it does happen.

Woah I’ve never even heard of these events. The weather here in California is so perfect all the time, it’s hard to imagine this even happening.
