Because having a video doorbell is incredible and the vast majority of people don’t have the technical know-how for a DIY solution nor the funds for a professional one.

I’ll stick to HA and Amcrest myself but the pros outweigh the cons for anyone who fits the above description

Yeah and most people don’t care because they don’t have other options and the convenience of having your front door monitored remotely is worth it.

            … don’t even know how creepy they’re[.]

Man, I love Lemmy. Never mind the discussion; even our grammatical errors are high-quality and interesting compared to compared to the ones in mass-market social media.

Apparently, ending a sentence with a “weak form” like that is called a “stranded clitic.”

Like the person on that page noted, sentences like yours roll off the tongue with all the grace of a moose in a tutu. But oh well, it is what it’s.

Yeah, but I’d also say that most of them won’t be affected by the privacy breech either.

My mom’s in the market for one of these door bells. Would you recommend an Amcrest for someone with no tech know-how?

Unfortunately I’m not sure. I know Amcrest has its own app and ecosystem but Home Assistant users like them because you can bypass all of that and use your own software
