The asterisk at the end makes me feel like you aren’t actually asking, but I’m not sure and others may see this and have that question legitimately even if you don’t so-

I’ve known a lot of self-hating (insert demographic here), and they do often go out of their way to punish themselves… while actively doing the thing they are punishing themselves for. I think it gives them a feedback loop of pleasure and pain that they are addicted to, like what a lot of dudes refer to as “post nut clarity”. If it was a big enough deal to be ashamed after, it shouldn’t lead to arousal in the first place, so it’s gotta be n inbuilt mental defense or something…

Dude’s on Grindr, he’s not there by accident (you couldn’t be), but man it makes him feel like shit because (insert social issue). So he abuses those who don’t feel the same shame, because how dare they just exist when he has so many issues with who he is…

Heterosexual homophobes are very unlikely to care enough to bother… not saying it can’t happen, but that’s just a lot of work for very little gain.

Women’s spaces see the same sort of thing, with a slightly different cause, and it’s really gross.

      Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

As for the asterix, I’m not sure why it didn’t work this time, but the whole line was supposed to be italic 🤷.

        Happy to help :)

It came through as a bullet point rather than an italic. At least for my client (voyager iOS app).

The only formatting it never handles is spoilers, everything else is mostly ok, but it may have mishandled the italic markdown too. Does it look fine on your end? Your reply was properly italicized, if that helps.
