Of course you didn’t even read the article. The firefighter died extinguishing an underground parking lot. There’s basically no confirmed connection to the riots.

Also, rioting is sometimes the only option for change. Nothing “mindless” about it.

Can you educate me on what the riots are about? I got the thing that a policeman murdered a black kid, but is that a common thing in France, or is there something specific the rioters want changed?

I don’t know much about the whole thing despite living not that far away from France.

Police killings are not that common in France, but harassment and brutality against minorities is. The French government has never shown any compassion and only made it easier for the police force to commit these acts and get away with it. The far right is getting more and more brazen and has used this situation to defend the police and demonize minority communities. The murder of this kid was just a way to funnel the increasing anger at the system that acts as an occupying force in these communities.

In German communities I hear already being spread as well that the riots is due to “excessive migration”, which I assume is our right wing spreading further the French right wing take on this? My impression was more it‘s due to the pension reform as well as police violence, but it‘s getting all twisted up by these agendas now, so I‘m getting confused myself.

Yeah, they have to state that as while it’s highly presumed to be from the riots they do not have the proof to factually state that.

I agree that sometimes riots are necessary, but I do agree that some of them like this one seems to be a bit mindless in the sense that the rioters aren’t planning attacks on the corporations, organization, and people that have lead to these tragedies but instead the whole community that is also on the same side and in pain. The grandmother has been begging for the random violence to stop. Watching your community and innocent neighbors loosing their livelihoods when they also stood for the cause, but when the family of the deceased isn’t on the same page then it’s obvious that some people are using this situation for their own interest in looting and attacking people.
