Yeah, I remember like a decade ago, seeing articles about how valuable the Disney VHS tapes were with the black diamond or something on the case. First thought was, “oh, we’ve still got a bunch of those at dad’s place”, second thought was, “oh, this article is probably written by someone who wants to get rid of the Disney VHS tapes they are sitting on and probably just did a high number sale with a friend to trick ‘investors’ into buying their bag”.
It would have been more believable if VHS tapes didn’t degrade to shit so quickly. Data like that needs to be actively maintained, not stored and forgotten while it appreciates in value.
As someone who recently cleared a lot of VHS tapes out of my parents’ old house, most of them aren’t worth nearly as much as people think.

Yeah they pretty much need to be M/NM in box. Those don’t even have the labels anymore.
