    “Could hurt its business”

Apparently we didn’t do much. I’m just happy to be on Lemmy so I don’t have to care.

The final results of the protest are still rolling out, they replaced a LOT of mods with what turned out to be utter shitstains (well more shitstainy than normal mods), and their collective abusive actions are chasing good content posters away.

We won’t see the largest part of the fallout for a few more months still.

It won’t be long till rxxxit is nothing but white nationalists and cat pic lovers.

Lol yeah, tired of people coming over here, lurking (not posting or commenting), and complaining there isn’t much content to consume.

Huh? Those are two vastly different groups. You can’t not comment or post AND complain about it. Those who complain are those who comment and/or post. Those who lurk either don’t interact at all or upvote/downvote only.

They lurk and then they complain if that makes sense. They only seem to do it if asked what they think about Lemmy though so at least it’s not everywhere. Usually people who were banned from Reddit and linger around her till it runs up or people trying it for the first time and disappointed no one is talking about movies or something so they can’t just get involved in a vibrant conversation.

I encourage them to get involved too, post what ever they like, to leave a comment nomater how insignificant it might seem. I get no response what so ever from them. I even make the point that reddit was this small at one point but it was the community that grew it.

What sucks is that on most social media platforms about 10% of users make the content that draws people in. The rest are typically lurking and contributing little to platform growth but are still important to platform monetization. Not important to Lemmy but still.

In fairness, a bigger and bigger percentage of my comments lately have been criticizing Lemmy, often because there’s nothing else being discussed here that I give much of a shit about.

The longer I’m here the less optimistic I am that this is the next big thing and the more it seems like it’s just Reddit with less content, less discussion, more hive mind, and higher percentage of annoying users.

It’s the echo chamber effect, it a positive feedback loop. This is why I kept my reddit accounts, because, one, shit gets boring here sometimes, two, more diverse opinions, three, users are not as entitled as they can be here… not all of them, but man some people here can be real Karens.

I feel it’s just enough content.

Browsing for about an hour and I can cover most of the new posts in my topic interests. A lot less time just mindlessly scrolling, and more time getting info and community on my favorite topics.

It’s like having a nice meal and being satisfied after.

Rxxxit was more like ‘if I browse this shit long enough I might find something interesting that isn’t infested with alt-right memes and hate’ and hours later it is still mostly shit.

It’s like having an unending supply of dorito fun sized bags but 95% of them contain rat shit.
