Mitt Romney was given the cold shoulder for losing. Trump’s policies are a direct continuation of Bush’s policies except for the Muslim ban (but I’d argue starting two wars in the Middle East is worse).

Yeah, not going to get all Nazi grammar about perceived distinctions between saying “natural progression” and “direct continuation”. If you don’t want to see it even though several major journals have reported on the divisions within Republican ranks that led to the current state, then I’m certainly not going to make you see it.
