I’ve never particularly thought that Jewish food staples are bland, but rather subtle or purposeful.
We’re sorely lacking a good Jewish deli where I live, and it’s a constant source of frustration for me.
There is what is supposed to be a Jewish deli here, and the people who used to run it were definitely Jewish, but it’s on the other side of town, so I almost never go. And they must have changed ownership because this past Thanksgiving, they offered pre-made dinners with ham in them. And yet still call it a Jewish deli. What?
Now it’s just a Jew-ish deli.
