Hello, I am looking at a CED player and 50 ish discs for $50 on Marketplace, I an interested in the format and have a small laserdisc collection, I know CEDs are lower resolution and most discs only have mono audio but I like oddball stuff like that. The seller did not mention if anything works but replacement belts seem fairly inexpensive though a replacement sytlus is pretty spendy if needed. Any advice you could give would be appreciated. Thanks.

I own a CED player and very small collection. $50 for all is an excellent price, assuming the player works. They’re awful, and you’ll never want to watch them again. But they’re an excellent private collection slash private museum piece.

All that said, LaserDisc is where it’s at. Consider sticking with a LaserDisc collection instead. Fuckin love LD.

Good stuff - subscribed and added to the sidebar.

I’ve picked up a few cheap ones (because if audiophiles can display LPs on their walls, I can nail up a couple of Laserdiscs) but there are some I want that are expensive imports and I may need a better way to get them than eBay. Feels like post fodder over there.

Might I ask imports from where?

I myself at this point buy mostly Japanese LDs, for a variety of reasons. The jacket artwork is often cooler, the manufacturing quality seems higher, and they’re usually in mint condition.

I’ll start a thread over there but mainly Japan. They do love the format over there. I’d be interested in Hong Kong horror films but even they are coming from Japan or via the US.

More common stuff (still Japanese releases but of American movies) is available here in the UK reasonably cheaply.
