I started with using an adamant Poliwrath, but Blastoise uses Iron Defense so often switching to Special Attack seemed the more successful option.

I am using a Modest Terapagos with a Shell Bell. Flamethrower, Sunny Day, Calm Mind, and Tera Starstorm.

I tried the same. My second try was a support/tank Umbreon. Fake Tears, Light Screen, Sunny Day, Screech, Haze, Mud Slap, Tera Blast, Weather Ball, or a few other options. It was okay, but team-dependent. I also tried using a Bronzong I made a while ago that’s basically the same thing (Metal Sound vs Fake Tears), and it performed the same.

Vaporeon seems to be where it’s at. Calm Mind + Surf are the bread-and-butter. For the other two moves it can learn a lot of the same ones as Umbreon, but I landed on Fake Tears (situational: I only bother if there are other special attackers on my team) and Tera Blast, with a Fire Tera type. Water Absorb protects you while You’re fire type. It’s good enough damage plus you never die. If your team doesn’t have a support then Vaporeon has no problem taking a turn to cheer, especially early on when the shield is up.

        Shell Bell on the Vaporeon?

ETA: i swapped fake tears for Sunny Day and Surf for Weather Ball. Going to try a Scope Lens for the crits since i am taking next too no damage.

I’ve rolled with the Shell Bell, but i spend most of my time at close to full health so a damaging item might be viable.

I’ve seen other people wrecking with Sunny Day Weather Ball too, but my concern there would be Blastoise using Rainy Day and having to reset that, on top of resetting buffs. In on case someone used Taunt to get around that.

I’m getting the impression there’s a lot of different Vaporeon builds that work, and different ones seem to be optimal with different team compositions. Blastoise just isn’t that threatening and there’s a lot of Pokemon that have no problem surviving, so it’s just a question of getting through the shields and stat resets to do enough damage.
