Deloreans had a similar problem. Dents and scratches couldn’t be repaired with traditional bodywork techniques. They had a special Brillo/scotchbrite pad that would put the texture back into metal if you buffed it too hard.
It’s as much self preservation, but I think it’s a no brainer here. You’re not being a dick going over on that side imo.
