This definitely needs to be done. It works great with the TMO in rugby where you hear the ref’s thought process as they come to a decision.
The big difference then is that in Rugby the whole referee team is involved in TMO, whereas in football, the linesmen and assistant are excluded. It would be much better to bring them into the discussion so that they come to a consensus decision. They’re much less likely to be spectacularly wrong like that (as the ref was in Juventus - Salernitana where Bonucci was called offside despite being over 1m onside).
They should also broadcast the conversation in the Stadiums (as they do in rugby international matches - on reusable earpieces you can buy for €10), and show the replays on the big screen so fans can see what the fuck is going on!
