    How would you know where the emphasis is supposed to go without some visual cue? “My name’s not Lassie” is different than “My name’s not Lassie” . I mean this situation isn’t the best example because those are fairly similar, but it’s still just a way of invoking different meaning that’s lost when it’s not spoken aloud.

      I think I just felt a certain way because the joke didn’t land. And I know there’s supposed to be a visual cue, it just had the unintended consequence of forcing my brain to try and express that emphasis verbally. It ended up sounding very bad.
