minus-squarewispydustlink3•1 year agoIt’s a desperate move to prevent a checkmate. If white did anything else (try c5 for example), black will reply with g6#. If white did Bxf6, and black tries g6, white can escape by doing Kxg5.
Why Bxf6? Seems like… not a great move for white. They get a pawn but would lose their bishop from either of two directions. Or am I just missing the point of the chess puzzle? 😅
