Sure, but are you consistent? Do you also rail against Helldivers 2, the Resident Evil Remakes, and all the rest? (I literally can’t think of more because I avoid almost everything like this.) I totally agree that it sucks, and it creates a situation where the games end up designed to be worse in order to sell the solution.

However, this game it looks to me like the director had pretty much as much control as is possible. The MTX are very minor and not all that useful. It seems to me (no personal experience yet) that the only people who will be buying these MTX are people with way too much money to spend, and it really won’t do much for them. In this situation I’m really not that bothered by them, despite being one of the strongest opponents of MTX generally. It’s just that if you decide you hate every game with MTX you can’t play modern games at all.

As an additional fun fact, Bethesda, creators of the infamous Horse Armor DLC, actually had an additional crystal-based teleport option DLC for their diegetic-only fast travel game Morrowind. This was in 2002 before this was really even heard of, but it was luckily free in this instance. Just a weird bit of synchronicity. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Master_Index

Yes, I avoid those games completely. I haven’t played neither Helldivers (didn’t know about it actually), resident evil, assassin’s Creed origins and Valhalla, shadow of war etc.

It’s easier for me to avoid them because I don’t really like most of the releases these days, although I did want to play shadow of war. The only one I played in recent memory is Baldur’s Gate 3. I’ve played monster hunter games for a long time, since freedom unite, but if they shove MTX in the new game I just won’t buy it. I’m so sick of this nonsense in the industry that I wouldn’t even pirate it. There’s a million older extremely good games I haven’t played yet and full priced open world, crafting, stealth action games with light rpg elements and MTX can disappear for all I care.

I have never heard of that teleport option nor seen that plugin in my list of plugins. I didn’t know it existed at all, interesting.

I think it’s just included in the GOTY edition or whatever it is you buy now that includes the DLCs. I’m not certain on this though. It’s been a while since I played last. You may have to add it yourself.

As for all the games with MTX, I’m with you that I mostly avoid them (rather, I’m not even interested in them). I mostly stick to indies or old games. That said, plenty of games with MTX are handled fine. Helldivers 2 is fairly good about it, and Deep Rock Galactic. These games need to pay for servers, so they do need some recurring revenue stream. That’s also true for DD2, though to a significantly lesser extent and the $70 price tag is more than enough for it.

I recommend checking out Dragons Dogma: Dark Arizen if you haven’t though. My knowledge of that is why I know DD2 MTX isn’t that horrible. I’d rather it not exist at all, but they’re working for Capcom so that isn’t an option. The fact that it’s so minor is good.

Yeah, I saw it on Nexus mods now when I was searching for it, titled fixed version.

Yeah I think indies are the best games to play right now with biggest variety and on some of them you can really feel that it was made with passion and love for games (like Terraria) as opposed to the supposed AAA games. I get that rare feeling when I finish them where I don’t want them to finish because of how good they are.

I did play the first Dragon’s Dogma and I loved it, which is why I just get sad about this game when I hear about some dumb things like complicated fast travel (unless you pay) under the guise of “the creator thinks it’s not fun.” Yeah get bent. I never finished the first game and I think I just might start a new game.

DD2 MTX might not be as horrible as others, but I still find it insulting. Microtransactions are there with a purpose. If it was some small indie developer I might understand, but not for Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take Two or any other big publisher.
