Isekai Tensei: Recruited to Another World Volume 6 - In the biggest twist of the century the rescued illegal elf slaves did not fall in love with MC and did not join the harem. It’s mind-boggling. I did not think they could do something like that. - 6/10
Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 5 Avatar of a Goddess Volume 9 - Another banger of a volume! Some notes I took while reading it:
the battle scenes are insanely cleverly done. By limiting the view of Rosemyne (and thus limiting the reader’s view as well) the fighting could be described on a close-up level that conveys the horror and confusion perfectly without falling into the trap of trying to explain large-scale battles from an outside observer perspective. It’s like the difference between the Battle of Bastards and the final battle in GoT.
Shellshocked Myne was so heart-wrenching that it actually made me shed tears as well. I honestly don’t remember when a book managed to do that the last time.
Miya Kazuki did some other clever things in this volume that are atypical for a light novel. For example, putting a major event only in the epilogue chapter while having it only being something told to Myne during the main book. That helped the pacing and showed that the world doesn’t stop revolving when the main character isn’t looking. I love that soo much.
And now my wait begins (for my library is vast and full of backlog) <- my last SoIaF reference, I promise. - 11/10
