Less than a week ago, SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) developers restarted the discussion regarding whether Wayland should be configured as the preferred over X11, but now Wayland will be sticking if certain Wayland protocols are available.
Anecdotal, but every time I’ve tried x11 sessions over the years I’ve either gotten screen tearing on the desktop or it didn’t run at my monitors full refresh rate above 60hz. Wayland has always run how I would expect it to.
I’ve been trying to figure this out and I did a bunch of searches and read a bunch on the topic, the architecture, the Mir drama, etc.
But what I haven’t been able to figure out is, what does Wayland do for the end user?
