June 2023 may be remembered as the start of a big change in the climate system, with many key global indicators flashing red warning lights amid signs that some systems are tipping toward a new state from which they may not recover.

I’m curious if we’ve reached that mythical “point of no return” yet that climate scientists have been pushing back every 5 years that I’ve been alive. Surely we must be beyond that point by now.

Seriously, though. I’m fully on board with building nuclear reactors everywhere, transitioning to electric cars, etc. I’m just tired of seeing policies that screw over the average working class person when politicians are still flying private jets everywhere. No one seems to want to do more than lip service to the issue.

Worse yet, as a moderate, the parties that supposedly want to do anything about the problem are the same parties who are radically progressive. I want moderate populist policies. There’s no way I can vote for left wing groups these days even if I thought they would do something meaningful to fight climate change. I would be significantly better served trying to convince conservatives to care about the climate than to try to convince progressives that a 5 year old doesn’t know enough about themselves to decide they are trans.

The climate is important. Its not so important that I’m willing to encourage progressive narratives over. Besides, global birth rates are in decline. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a rapid drop in emissions over the next 100 years for this reason alone.

Can you show me the times that scientists have pushed back the point of no return every 5 years?

The same people who legislate that the average Joe has to pay for shopping bags to stem the amount of waste but does fuck all about planned obsolescence in products. Perfectly acceptable to throw that fridge freezer away after 5 years because it’s been engineered to fail. Simply must keep those pennies rolling in. Rusty fridge from the early 80’s still ticking away nicely in the garage though.

Incredible how lobbying by big business makes them exempt from their part in all of this despite their contribution to global warming being more impactful that the average Joe could make in multiple lifetimes.

Can you tell me why you think that you are capable of knowing you are not trans, and why a 5 year old is incapable of knowing that they would rather be addressed with a certain name or pronouns, or be seen a certain way, which is essentially what being a 5yo trans person would be.

If you truly wanted to deal with climate change you’d already be voting for progressives but the hill you choose to die on is the trans social issues while trying to regurgitate populist ideals. So please stop it with the centricity

A moderate at best indirectly but most commonly directly supports the status quo in the US.
