I’ve noticed teletext is sent along with broadcast radio as well. E.g. smartphones with an FM receiver are able to show the station callsign and the name of the currently playing artist. So my question is, is scheduling information also included in that data stream so we know what programs are coming on the radio station at what times?
Great question. It’s not teletext, but similarly adding digital data onto a traditional analogue FM signal.
Not sure where you are, but if you’re in the UK, it’s RDS that does the magic.
Given its age, it’s a pretty awesome system!
On DAB, there is the possibility to have an EPG. The BBC broadcast an EPG for a while but so few radios made use of it, I don’t think they still do.
