There are a few subreddits I check out from time to time because Lemmy doesn’t have the volume of users required to keep those niche conversations active.

Maybe some of them, but the r/conservative subreddit is huge, and they won’t let anyone except right wingers comment on almost everything. Only people with conservative flair can comment on like 95% of their posts.
The snowflaking and censorship in that subreddit is wild
Not as wild as their lack of self-awareness.
