“It’s going to be either you live for another day, or you get stabbed on TTC, or you get a car, and it’s not really that easy. It makes me feel like TTC is actually not really that safe anymore and they’re not doing anything about it.”

Nobody tell this person about how cars are significantly more dangerous than the TTC…

Even if you’re a pedestrian or a cyclist, your biggest risk during a commute is getting hit by someone else’s car. The TTC is statistically the safest way to commute.

I’m a big anti-car person (I’m middle aged and gave never owned one) and that made me roll my eyes. Someone should tell them about that, actually. And that the media doesn’t report on that is ridiculous (though I suppose it’s not the point of this particular story).

You’re missing a big point, though. While you are statistically more likely to get in a car accident, you need to look at the whole picture.

Toronto is a tight city. No one is getting into extreme collisions. Someone hitting you going 30 or 40 km an hour, isn’t going to do anything except damage your car.

You are not going to get stabbed in your car, pushed onto tracks, etc.

I don’t really care to have a car vs public transit argument. You do whatever you prefer. But it’s important to be fair about the comparison.
