    Why? What’s the motivation?

From my own experience I’m much less likely to get shitfaced if I have a joint - just happily buzzed.

And are people smoking a bit of grass really that worse than the vomiting, comatose people these events normally produce?

    Deutschland, help me understand!

The motivation is to stoke fears in people that are against cannabis. For the conservatives like CDU and CSU party every change is bad. They even promised to illegalize weed once they are ruling again

With the difference that you are allowed to buy and consume beer and wine at the age of 16 (hard liquor with 18).

So the whole “protecting the youth”-spil is idiotic …

As a German: yes, waaaay to young. 21 for both (and cannabis for that matter) would be a good idea I think.

Not surprising at all. It is Bavaria -the land of the lederhosen- we re talking about, also referred to as the “Texas of Germany”. They have their heads so far up their asses that they consider alcohol to be a harmless staple food and at the same time think that cannabis is a drug as dangerous as heroin and crack. Many of those clowns even believe cannabis is administered by injection, lol.

Well for one, the governing party in bavaria (CSU) is heavily against cannabis so that might play its part. But also, if you’re happily blazed you won’t buy the absurdly expensive beer at the Oktoberfest. If you aren’t high they can sell you beer for 15€/litre so you can get drunk instead and make them lots of profit.

Well in 2023 it was between 12,60€ and 14,80€ in 2023 for a Maß (1l) so it might just crack the 15€ mark this year. But the Oktoberfest in Munich is legendarily expensive. Like, that’s basically double what you pay in a regular Biergarten in Bavaria, outside of the cities. And there are more than enough willing to pay that price.

Money. If you smoke weed you’ll be less likely to drink copious amounts of beer. At least that’s what I do when I want to save on overpriced drinks. Why should I drink 3 beer steins when 1 puff of weed makes be just as buzzed with no hangover?

Yeah, it seems this is the consensus. I’d hoped the .de was somehow more mature / realistic about this dynamic. Sorry, haven’t been to visit since before the wall came down. It’s on my hopes to return one day but… <gesticulates at the hellscape>

That’s the point. People buy less beer when they’re high. That mean less money. Bavaria has many breweries and they’re all lobbying against another legal drug other than alcohol because they fear that sales will go down. Sales will go down though, and that’s a good thing because alcohol actually makes people sick and even kills people
