Apparently normal humans can do it so why not merfolk? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_river_dolphin Like sure, marine merfolk probably don’t need that, what with sand and all, but it would be helpful!

I pity any merfolk that have to swim in the Wabash.
