Yeah it’s crazy how you can’t make even the slightest criticism of a Democrat without getting downvoted and called a bot or fascist. I love Bernie but this is the one thing that really made me sour on him because I had such high expectations of him being one of the first people to come out and condemn the Genocide.

How dare they call me a fascist just because I spread false talking points written by fascists

How is it a talking point from fascist? It took months for Bernie to come out against the genocide… that’s real. Yall are the true fucking fascist. Lining up to vote for Biden is who funding a genocide while acting like your morals are any better than Republicans.

There is criticism about Biden and Hillary everywhere. There is even criticism on Obama.

Nobody will defend Schumer or Pelosi.

What Democrats can’t I criticize because all of those, the most prominent leaders of the party nobody will defend if I attack

Fuck Biden, Clinton x2, Schumer, Pelosi and fuck it, fuck Pete too for good measure

Let’s see how many downvotes I get.

So there are multiple tactics to disrupt a social network; I kind of suspect that the propaganda trolls on Lemmy are shifting their tactics from “Genocide Joe” “I’m not voting” and other stuff that they were getting unanimously yelled at for, and into just posting generally unpleasant stuff that turns people off from participating and drowns out human conversation.

Just pure hostility can serve this purpose, but it also can draw attention from the mods, so I suspect that a chorus of aggressively wrong stuff like “Bernie isn’t good on Israel and I’m so mad about it” “How dare you disagree with me on that you can’t stand the slightest criticism” and other arguments that are just kind of off-putting because of their blatant wrongness and impossibility to engage with productively, but not technically rule-breaking in any way, are the new tactic.

Mhmm, they gave up on Genocide Joe once they remembered they were talking to liberals, and liberals don’t actually care about that unless “socialists” are doing it.

A lot of them just seem happy to have gotten Lemmy to broadly acknowledge that the genocide is a genocide.

They havent achieved anything. They sow dissent claiming that electoralism and direct action must be mutually exclusive resulting in dividing the leftists on this platform and broadly across the internet.

To be clear, BERNIE IS VERY CLEARLY THE BETTER OPTION but since the US has a terrible electoral system, all they are achieving is a splitting of the vote unless they convince every last liberal and undecided in the country to vote the same way. 50% fascist is better than Project-2025% fascist.

I literally can’t think of a single person I’ve seen on Lemmy who doesn’t care about what’s happening in Palestine or doesn’t think it is a horrifying genocide.

I have seen a bunch of people say, the point is the genocide under Trump will be much much worse, and our options for this short term are Trump or Biden, so I’m picking Biden. That is an anti-genocide view, not a pro.

You can say that’s a tactical error and they should withhold support until Biden starts doing better. Sure, that makes sense. Or, you can say a few other things to pick holes in that viewpoint in some other way. Sure, makes sense. But building this fantasy world where there are all these people around who are okay with what’s happening in Palestine is, I think, more or less just a way of assigning cartoonish views to people who don’t agree with you because that’s easier than engaging with what they’re actually saying.

One might note that the general opinion at the start was very much “both sides” on Lemmy. Until people woke up to the fact that Israel doesn’t seem to think Hamas members and Palestinians are different things.

Hm… I looked over this thread.

I do, actually, in a literal sense see some people pointing out that “both sides,” i.e. that Hamas also committed a monstrous crime (which they did). E.g.:

Both sides pick shitty leadership. Both sides are constantly fucking with the other side in a deadly game. However, one side is grossly overpowered relative to the other and is constantly stealing land while committing apartheid.

Yeah, they’re both assholes. Just one’s a shitload stronger and never ever stops fucking with the little guy.

IDK, I can maybe see the case that as Hamas’s crime faded further and further into the background it stopped being part of the conversation whereas it had been before. But there’s an overwhelming consensus even in that early thread that the main thing is Israel should stop killing innocent people and stealing land.
