Yeah there’s some ways the dsa has certainty not met expectations.
A lot of stuff has changed for me over the past eight years too. I’d say that if you think voting, particularly in the presidential election, is the most important thing you can do as an individual you’re selling yourself short.
I’m just some idiot but I managed to get my local government to do actual waterway buffer zones and upkeep as opposed to a greenwashing ad campaign with some money earmarked for “sustainability”.
That’s more than any vote of mine has ever done, certainly a vote in the presidential race.
When I made light of January sixth it was because it’s pretty goofy event overall. When I motioned towards a redo after the upcoming election it was to hopefully make clear that the project 2025 crowd isn’t the only group who recognized that they need better plan.
I had wanted to not outright say it, but: there is no discussion about the real world and choices in front of us now to be had. It doesn’t matter how people vote, if trump isn’t declared the winner there will be a replay of January sixth by people who paid attention and are better equipped, prepared and coordinated. This isn’t a hike along branching trails, it’s a rollercoaster and we gotta get strapped in.
I hope to be proven wrong, but take some time now while no one’s the wiser and get resilient.
As far as what doing for the people around you means: if you stop on your way about a busy day and help someone change a tire, carry their groceries in, charge their phone or give a ride that has a greater impact on the future of the world around you in real terms than any vote for who sits atop the great satan and holds the reins.
This isn’t a hike along branching trails, it’s a rollercoaster and we gotta get strapped in.
I really hope you’re wrong about this, although it’s something I’ve considered a lot as well. I agree with everything you’re saying, but I just can’t shake the idea that what’s happening in Florida is a preview of what’s to come, and in my eyes there’s a severe difference between D and R right now and I genuinely worry for my queer friends especially sometimes. Federal law supercedes any local stuff and the President has been an office which has increasingly used executive action to meet its objectives. Combined with how Congress works… I think we need to try our damnedest to avoid the implications of that, is all. Biden is the only shot we have right now in that regard 🫠
I urge you to consider that democrats are in power now while events in Florida, Texas and across the country take place.
I didn’t make my original comment to change minds, but to help people feel comfortable saying no to the two party system; so I’m not gonna suggest you don’t vote for Biden, but I will say that if that vote can represent hope for the best do what you can to prepare for the worst.
