I’m reading this article and the only thing that jumps out to me is that this reviewer is having to play all these different models, some of which are very large, and thinking that this is a problem for the entire industry. If he wasn’t a reviewer, then he wouldn’t have to actually play any of those, and he could just keep using the smaller ones that are easy to transport.
Honestly, the beauty of the current movement is that there’s going to be a lot of variety. You’re no longer stuck with what Nintendo decides to put out for a handheld console that generation.
There will be smaller ones that can be easily transported, and there will be bigger ones meant mainly for people who just want the convenience of being able to play a game from anywhere in their home.
And I feel like there needs to be an acknowledgment that portability does not necessarily need to also mean you can play the thing comfortably anywhere at any time. You can still take these things with you when you travel, they’ll just be in your bag. If you absolutely need the ability to pull it out and play it at any point in any location, you can just aim for a smaller model, or use your phone.
Or perhaps the point of a handheld is expanding?
