There is definitely some knee-jerkiness with that rating, but on the flip side, he had to make 0 saves, meaning that the spotlight was going to be dispropotionately pointed to his error. On top of that, I think most would agree that his error singlehandedly let Spurs back into it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who blamed him for my heart rate spiking in the last 20 minutes of the match.

Fotmob gave him a 5.5 and WhoScored gave him a 5.11, so I don’t even think our rating is out of line.

I completely understand it. I’m by no means saying he’s not at fault for the mistake and you can definitely point to that as a key moment of when the momentum started to swing. You could also argue that it caused a domino effect where Rice ends up in an uncomfortable position that leads to the penalty, etc

I suppose I was more looking at it (although a limited viewpoint, lol) from an individual performance and not so much as a whole.

It’s impossible not to put his rating in context. The fact is, his mistake changed the game. He was excellent after the mistake, but that mistake was costly. It’s not the first time that after a big game, we’ve walked away with questions about his temperament and composure. If not for his stupid mistake, we’d have walked away sans the score that flattered them.

That’s fair and I completely understand where you’re coming from
