    The problem is: he drove himself. The fact that the car couldn’t recognize that the driver couldn’t be in control of the vehicle is appalling and brought risk for everyone who shared the road with that man. What’s wrong with calling an ambulance? It’s not that he didn’t have any other choice.

        You are right, I don’t know if he didn’t have a choice. But if a hospital is just 20km away, I wonder if just calling an ambulance would have been the easier and smarter thing to do. The fact that he could get health care and arrived safely is awesome - and I personally cheer any advancement in the automotive driving field - but this story shows more of the problems of Teslas marketing approach and fail to implement driver attention assessment systems. There are more advanced and safe ways to approach automated driving, see Mercedes.
