Organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest have said they reserve the right to remove any Palestine flags from the competition, due to take place 7-11 May.
Archived version: https://archive.ph/SmNRh
Haven’t they always been strictly non-political? Or were flags other than those of competing nations allowed before this year?
It’s literally a nationalist song contest, and they sure as fuck don’t have a problem with Israeli flags. Or Israel competing. This is some actual bullshit concern trolling.
As for specific reactions to current events, Russia was banned from Eurovision for reasons that should be obvious… “Non political” my keister.
Didn’t Russia withdraw on their own years before recent escalations happened, because the show was too gay for them?
IIRC it was the year when Conchita Wurst won.
What I don’t get is people are Russia bad but Israel is doing same shit or worse and it’s like well they deserve it.
Non-political is an inherently meaningless phrase used to bludgeon the powerless. The rights and freedoms of the lgbtq community are only political if you’re not a member of that community. If you are a member of that community, it’s a very real and existential issue that must be addressed.
