Saudi Arabian citizens have faced increasing arrests for criticising Israel on social media in recent months as a result of its ongoing military onslaught against Gaza.

According to Bloomberg, one detainee was an executive involved in Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s economic development initiatives including the kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Another reportedly urged Saudi citizens to boycott American brands operating in the Gulf kingdom as well as a media figure who said Israel should never be forgiven.

This crackdown coincides with ongoing efforts by the United States to facilitate the normalisation of ties between Riyadh and Israel.

Saudia Arabia doing Israel’s bidding was certainly not on my 2024 bingo card. Where is this coming from?

They want American weapons to suppress their population. Arabs do not like the Saudi monarchy whatsoever.

Saudi hosts a lot of American military bases. Saudi also wants American defense guarantees. There was quite a line of tamed dogs leading Saudi but then Saudi King Faisal came and stood up to the israelis in 73’.

The 1973 Arab–Israeli War, also known as Yom Kippur War and Ramadan War, took place between 6 to 25 October. It left a tumultuous mark in world history with the “First Oil Shock”- when the then-Arab world, led by Saudi King Faisal imposed an oil embargo on the West.

Faisal got assassinated two years later.
