Chicago’s annual Cinco De Mayo parade was abruptly halted and canceled Sunday amid reports of gang-related violence near the route, according to Chicago police.

Police made the announcement Sunday afternoon shortly after the parade had been scheduled to get underway. Citing an “abundance of caution,” officials said that the parade was canceled following reports of large-scale fights in the area.

Gangs is code for too many colored people in one place.

I get the sentiment, but it’s Chicago my guy it’s pretty diverse here. If cops start shutting everything down because brown people exist nothing would get done here 😂

For sure, some of the worst by some accounts. I’m not that familiar with the lower west side, but even by me wayyyy up north there are certain neighborhoods where if everyone got together in one place there’s almost a guarantee for violence.

Which I guess is my point, if that neighborhood has a lot of issues with gang violence the event planners should have been proactive and secured different spot. If they didn’t see it coming or the police got wind of something the day of, not much anyone can really do.
